Osteopaths are now being used more and more by high-level sporting professionals and teams to address their sports injuries. In this year’s World Cup, the England Soccer team brought their own dedicated osteopath along with them to Russia. Osteopaths have even been seen pitchside at Tennis Opens in Wimbledon. Roger Federer famously used his Osteopath to treat his injured shoulder pitch side in mid game. During the London Olympic Games in 2012, there was a dedicated team of osteopaths onsite who treated top elite Olympic athletes, from over 40 different sporting backgrounds.
In New Zealand, Osteopathy is slowly permeating its way into the various sporting clubs. I personally treat an array of sporting professionals; rugby players, MMA fighters, martial artists, weightlifters, skiers, bikers, marathon runners. These range from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior, fitness enthusiasts to teenagers suffering from sports injuries.
