Our Osteopaths can refer our patients directly to Pacific Radiology for X-rays and Ultrasounds. If the patient is willing to pay for private healthcare, we can also make direct referrals for MRI scans. We can also request steroidal injections at Pacific Radiology, a radiologist will perform this treatment.
At Better Health Osteopathy, we accept ACC patients and file all the necessary paperwork. Patients are then granted up to 16 treatments to be used over 12 months from the date of injury. However, interestingly, ACC data shows that a patient typically recovers from their injury after about 3.6 osteopathic treatments.
Lorraine Herity is the Clinic Director of Better Health Osteopathy in Christchurch. Having previously worked in Osteopathic clinics in London and Ireland, Lorraine moved to New Zealand in 2013, where she opened the Better Health Osteopathy clinic in Merivale in 2016.
Lorraine complete her Osteopath training at the British School of Osteopathy in London, where she gained her Master of Osteopathy (M.Ost). Lorraine is a dedicated and passionate Osteopath whose main aim is to help patients regain their health and return to their everyday activities as quickly as possible.
Lorraine is also a clinic tutor for the Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Health and Osteopathic post-grad Diploma provided by the Ara Institute of Canterbury and relishes the opportunity to teach and guide the next generation of Osteopaths.
To become an Osteopath, you must undergo four-five years of intensive training in order to skillfully diagnose and treat various forms of dysfunction in the body. During this comprehensive training, Osteopaths focus on studying the anatomy, physiology, pathology and neurology of the body, as well as general medical diagnostic skills and various Osteopathic treatment techniques.
In Christchurch, the Ara Institute of Canterbury offers a Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Health degree and an Osteopathic post-grad Diploma, which are examples of the qualifications needed for an Osteopath in New Zealand.
All our Osteopaths at Better Health Osteopathy are fully registered with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand. Osteopaths are also regulated under the same legislation (New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000) as Doctors and Nurses.
